What is a personal brand? A plain answer, and how to build one

What people think of when they hear your name, built mostly by what you post and how you show up.

Your personal brand is the picture in someone's head when your name comes up. You have one whether you work on it or not, and the only question is whether it's the picture you'd choose.

What it's made of

Mostly your posts, your profile and what other people say about you. A buyer who looks you up reads your last few posts and decides in a minute whether you know your stuff. A steady trail of useful posts does more for you than a polished bio.

Building one on purpose

Pick the few topics you want to be known for, post about them often, and use your own stories and opinions so it sounds like you. Learn from the people ahead of you in your space, then make your own version. Our guide to growing a personal brand on LinkedIn with AI walks through it.

Why it pays

People buy from, hire and refer people they already feel they know. A personal brand does that introduction before you're in the room, and it keeps working when you're busy.
