What is engagement rate? And how much should you care?
The share of the people who saw your post and then did something with it, like a like, a comment, a save or a share.
Engagement rate is one number over another. Take everything people did with a post, so likes, comments, saves and shares, and divide it by how many people saw it. A thousand views and fifty actions is five percent.
What counts as good
It moves by platform and by how big you are, and smaller accounts usually look better because their followers actually know them. Rather than chase somebody else's benchmark, watch your own number over a few months and see which posts pull it up.
The part people miss
Not every action is worth the same. A save or a share means somebody wanted to keep it or wanted their friends to see it, and that is worth far more than a like somebody gave you while scrolling in a queue. Sort by saves and shares and the picture changes.
Where it can mislead you
A post can get a big rate because it started an argument, and an argument brings you nobody who wants to work with you. Ask who engaged, not just how many.
