How to use AI to write content that sounds like you

Everybody can spot AI writing now. The tidy sentences, the balanced take that offends nobody, the summary at the end that repeats what you just read. It's a smell, and readers back away from it.

The usual advice is to write a better prompt. That helps a bit, and it isn't the real problem.

The real problem is that it knows nothing about you

An AI with an empty text box has no choice but to write the average of everything it's read. Average is exactly what you don't want, because average is what your reader has already seen a hundred times.

So the fix isn't asking better. It's giving it something real to work from.

Give it your own material

Feed it your best posts and tell it to notice how you actually write. Your sentence length, the words you use, whether you swear, whether you tell stories or make points. Then ask it to write in that.

This works far better than describing your voice, because describing your voice is hard and showing it is easy.

Give it real information, not just a topic

This is the bigger one. "Write me a post about LinkedIn growth" produces sludge, because there's nothing in it. "Here are four posts that recently beat their author's average in my space, here's what they had in common, now write my version with this story of mine" produces something worth posting.

The difference is evidence. With evidence it's writing about something. Without it, it's generating text.

Use the AI you already pay for

You almost certainly already pay for Claude or ChatGPT. You don't need another writing app with a weaker model bolted on, you need your existing AI to be able to see your real data.

Always do the last pass yourself
